Thirsty Thursday: Whiskey Business

Cocktails, Thirsty Thursday | January 8, 2015 | By

I keep a restaurant spreadsheet. I actually keep one for both NYC and Denver since I travel back there frequently. I keep track of bar and restaurant openings that strike my fancy and then I make notes on each place once I’ve tried it. It helps keep me organized and also helps me remember what places I absolutely must go back to (hellooooooo Root and Bone).

On my list for much longer than it should’ve been is Dear Irving. I can’t believe it took me so long to get there. Luckily, most all of my friends entertain and indulge my need to constantly try new spots. I bet if you polled all of them, they’d agree that “I’ve been wanting to try this place forever!” is the phrase most often coming out of my mouth. Well, that or “balls!”. Also taking far too long was scheduling a get-together with my friends, Cristina and Draga. Of course they said yes to trying Dear Irving.

What was supposed to be a couple of drinks turned into an entire evening, zero dinner and more than just a couple. This happens often with my BDB sisters. However, it wasn’t our fault! The whiskey business is to blame. It happened to be absolutely frigid out last night when we went so this comforting, spiced cocktail warmed us right up. With a combo of rye whiskey, ancho chile, cinnamon, lemon and angostura bitters, this drink knows what’s up. Unfortunately, we did not as we kept ordering without thinking. I mean, wouldn’t you?!

I’m not sure how often Dear Irving changes their cocktail list so march yourself on over there before it’s gone. Let me know when you’re going and I’ll tag along.

The next time we speak, it’s imperative that I tell you a story about this post. Remind me!
